I weave tapestries at an old loom in my home in Nashville. For me, the appeal is that tapestry combines weaving's stucture and painting's imagery; the shapes, colors, and textures actually form the cloth.
Today some weavers continue tapestry's history of storytelling by using recognizable subject matter. But I design as an abstract painter using the composition to hint at subjects rather than to describe them. I want the tapestries to be sensed by the viewer, not necessarily explained.
