The empty bowls Artists Family Reunion - - -

is Sept 6th 2009. Vice President Brenda Stein is organizing this and will send more information by email and post cards.

“CV TACA Only” Craft Fair Information

Centennial Art Center has confirmed the date of Saturday, August 29, 2009, as reserved for a one-day craft fair for CV TACA members only. It will take place in the courtyard directly outside of the Art Center.  The fee per participating member is $30 - members may share a display area, however, each member is responsible for the $30 fee. This fee exempts members from obtaining a vendor number which created so much frustration during our exhibit last summer.

Lena Lucas, from the Art Center, will help with publicity.  We are responsible for our own set-up.  We must have a good showing in order to make this a viable event.

Notify Paula Bowers Hotvedt at pbhweave@bellsouth.net no later than FRIDAY, JULY 31, 2009 of your intention to participate. This is the final date to notify us of your participation.  Any notifications beyond this date will not be allowed to participate.  We would appreciate notification AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE.

No slides or cds are necessary.  This is a special offer from the Art Center exclusively for CV TACA members.  There is a cement area on the upper level and a grass courtyard below so that if you have a tent, you would be able to set up in the lower courtyard.

We will need a committee formed to help with this event.  If you are willing to help, please contact Paula at the above address.  If you have any questions, please call Paula at 615-789-0221.

ARTISAN WORK DISPLAY/SALES OPPORTUNITY

You are likely receiving this as a result of membership in CV-TACA or The Cumberland Furniture Guild, perhaps we know each other personally.

Quite by accident, I’ve been offered the opportunity to ‘manage’ a small ‘artisan’ space in Gas Lamp Antiques Mall and Decorating Center, located in Nashville across the street from 100 Oaks.  The space is small, 20’ wide x 8’ deep, about the size of a double booth at a show.  The location is excellent, visible as you reach the top of the stairway-main entrance and/or as you step out of the elevator.

The space was originally dedicated as a gallery, with a large number and variety of paintings.  Because it is located within an ‘antique mall & decorating center,’  my vision for it is as an ‘artisan markeplace’ with a nice combination of studio furniture, lighting, furnishings, and accessories.

Since the opportunity has arisen so suddenly, it will have a ‘soft’ beginning approximately June 1st, even if it’s only with my handpainted furniture and Greg Murry’s wonderful engraved ‘steel canvases.’   Additional artisan work will be added according to interest, available space, and relevance.  My plan is for the space to be neither stark nor cluttered, with a heavy emphasis showing the compatibility of contrasting styles.

Goals for artisans will be sales, sales leads, custom projects, and exposure.  Sales commission will be 30% for all transactions completed through Gas Lamp Antiques for work displayed in the space.  Sales from leads and custom projects will be the responsibility of individual artisans.

There will be a short Agreement to be signed when work is delivered.  It’s purpose is to list pieces/prices delivered, to offer some choices such as Trade Discounts Allowed, etc., to make sure everyone understands the no-insurance/no-responsibility issue, to specify timing of payments for work sold.

Since everyone is working in a variety of marketing directions, there won’t be any time limits on work displayed.  Hopefully, the venture can remain loosely formed and flexible.

This is very much in the formative stage.  Please send images (low resolution, please) and prices of specific work that you might be interested in displaying to suzanne@suzannefitch.com .  I will add a page with photos to my website just as soon as it’s available   www.suzannefitch.com .  Please feel free to email or phone me with any questions.

Thanks,

Suzanne Fitch
