MARCH, 2010
MEMBERSHIP MEMBERSHIP MEMBERSHIP The
first meeting of the 2010 CV-TACA chapter was held March 3, 2010. Our
chapter has 160 members, however, only 13 attended this meeting. Where
were the other 150 members?? . HAVE YOU RENEWED 2010 TACA
MEMBERSHIP? Please do so ASAP, membership in TACA includes the
chapter, CV-TACA. There are many benefits to membership. Visit the
TACA.org and CV-TACA.org websites for a complete list. Now we come to
the crucial point:
Active membership is what counts.
The
many activities and opportunities provided by TACA and CV-TACA result
from the participation of about 1% of the membership. The officers of
CV-TACA have all served for 3-5 years. It is time for volunteers to
step up and shoulder your responsibilities!! Upcoming chapter
meetings are: June 1, September 7 and December 7 (election of
officers). All meetings will be held at Watkins Design School, Metro
Center, and start at 6:00 PM. They last about 1 hour. Plan to attend
and to participate.
Exhibitions – Benefits of membership in CV-TACA
Jewish Community Center Exhibition was held December 1-31, 2009. It was
a successful event with 36 CV-TACA members participating. The new
pedestals gave a professional look to our exhibit. We are invited back
in 2010. Brentwood Library Exhibit 2010 offers space for CV-TACA members to showcase some of their pieces.
Centennial Art Center Exhibitions is currently presenting TACA Artists
Kaaren Engel and Sydney Reichman (mixed media painting and sculpture).
The exhibit runs now through Thursday, March 25th. Centennial Art Center Exhibitions will present Scott Hodes, Michael Summers and Tom Walton.
Centennial Art Center will host a CV-TACA Group Exhibit by Members of
the Cumberland Valley Chapter of the Tennessee Association of Craft
Artists. For more info call the Art Center at 862-8442 or Paula
Bowers Hotvedt at 789-0221. This is an opportunity for all artists,
beginners and experienced. Other exhibits
planned are Lew Gallery at Belmont University, Harpeth Art Center and
Gallery, Appalachian Center for the Arts, and Best of TN Crafts 2010 at
MTSU.
CV-TACA Web Page If you are not on this page with info
about you and your work, this is a missed chance that is always open.
Judy Heim is there to help if you are technically challenged. You must
OPT-IN through our web page to receive emails from CV-TACA about
events, opportunities and news. Listings of opportunities are sent out
as received, they include local as well as regional and national
events. This is another benefit of TACA membership. TACA has a Facebook
page. If you are a Facebook member, put TACA as a friend and keep up
with news.
Spring Fair - May 7, 8 & 9 2010 Artists have
been selected for the 2010 Spring Fair and plans are well underway. We
plan to have a CV-TACA Group Booth for those who do not wish to have an
individual booth. There is space for about 10 artists. Contact Eloise
Freeman at eloise37214@comcast.net or phone 615-364-6813 for
information concerning space and requirements. We need for someone to
lead the set up for the Group booth on May 6th at the spring fair. If
no one steps forward there will not be a group booth for CV-TACA.
TACA Board Meeting Minutes from the February, 2010 Board of
Directors meeting are attached to this newsletter. Please read because
it presents the accomplishments and goals of TACA. As members this
information is important in order for us to understand all the benefits
and obligations involved in our membership.
Executive Director Our
current Executive Director, Bill Mullins, has served since January
2009. Under his leadership TACA has had a great year, although the
weather gods did not shine on the 2009 Fairs. When Bill announced that
he must resign a search committee was formed to identify a new
Director. As described in the minutes (attached) the search committee
considered 38 applicants and plan for new Director to be in place in
April, 2010.
Artist Butler Program The CV-TACA meeting March
2, 2010 hosted Lynn Davison, who described his software for managing
the business of marketing one’s art, a studio manager for any artist.
This software is user friendly for both PC and Mac. He offers a free
trial period so you can determine if this will benefit your studio. If
interested, contact him at www.lynnsoft.net. The cost is a reasonable
$30.00.
This is just one example of the informative and
interesting presentations at the CV-TACA meetings. It was a soft sell
with a lively discussion between Lynn and our members. The meeting and
talk lasted only 1.5 hours. Our sincere appreciation goes to
Bill Heim, President, Brenda Stein, Vice-president, and Paula Bowers
Hotvedt, Event Coordinator, for this program and for all their efforts
to support CV-TACA.
