* * * * Time to Renew
* * * *
Just a reminder to everyone.
If you have not renewed your TACA membership, now is the time! Besides being on
our awesome website for FREE, you get email updates from both CV-TACA and TACA
main office to keep you in the loop. New this year, for you that show in the
TACA fairs, there is also a discount on booth fees for members.
By the way, if you have not
given TACA your email address, you do not receive emails from the main office
or CV. There are quick notices sent out to you involving workshops, sales
opportunities, and general reminders. If we do not have an email address, you
miss out on these. Mailing out these as they happen would be cost prohibitive.
Moral – be sure your renewal has your correct email printed legibly.

February Workshop
Here is the information emailed out concerning the
workshop. Note the deadlines. This workshop will not be held if we do not have
50 people sign up!

Winter Workshop 2009
We sent out a questionnaire
to the statewide membership. A majority of you were interested in a workshop
with quality instruction and relevant topic; wanted a workshop in February, at
a craft center or school near Nashville,
one day long, with a cost of $50-75. “Craft Fair 101” received the highest
vote. Digital fair application (with many write-ins related to digital
photography) jumped to second place.
The result?
We are offering a one day workshop February 21 with a “weather date” of
February 28. It will be at Appalachian Center for Crafts in Smithville with a
cost of $40 for the whole day per person. Lunch will be available for purchase
in the cafeteria. There will be two sessions on each topic – one in the morning
and one in the afternoon – so you can do both of them for the same price. We
have kept the price as low as possible for everyone. There will be NO discount, free pass or half day charge.
Topics will be:
Craft Fairs 101:
A diverse panel of experts will present their ideas about what you
need to know to be successful in the craft fair market. They will exchange points of view and
then be open to your questions.
Bring your questions and note pad.
Digital
photography: Starting with the Fall 2009 Fair TACA will accept only
digital photography for fair applications. Learn what you need to
know about making the digital transition. An expert will
explain the mechanics and terminology of digital photography as it
applies to recording your images and applying to craft fairs. Get
aboard the digital revolution!
Postmark deadline is February 6. If
there are not 50 participants, workshop will be cancelled. You must provide
phone and/or email.

February Workshop - Continued
For those of you who did not
get the email notice, there will be a combination workshop, Craft Fair 101 and Digital Imaging, at Appalachian Center, Smithville, February 21.
Tim Hintz and Bill Heim have done a superb job of
rounding up a stellar cast to share knowledge with you.
The Craft Fair
101 panel will consist of Marcie
Christensen, event
coordinator for Francisco's Farm Arts Festival at Midway College - recently
named among AmericanStyle Magazine’s Top Ten Art Fairs and Festivals for the
third year in a row; Wendy Outland, curator, editor, grants panelist, and
juror; Dale Baucum, full time artist
along with his wife, Brin; and Breanna
Rockstad-Kincaid, relative newcomer to the craft fair world.
Digital
Imaging will include
some basic digital photography information as well as guidance for ZAP and JAS.
John Peden teaches digital photography at the Tennessee Technology
Center at Murfreesboro and has taught customer
education classes for Wolf Camera.

Fall Parties
Bonfire Party – With rainy
weather not many people came to enjoy the ambiance! There was a bonfire lit,
but the consensus was to stay inside by the fireplace. The stew was wonderful,
the dessert tasty. Thanks to those who braved the storm!
Christmas Party – Catherine
McMurray was gracious to invite us into her home. The company and food both
made the trip worthwhile. We didn’t discuss anything of value – just enjoyed
the company!

Empty Bowls
We, the officers, would love
for someone to step up with an idea and leadership for a project that CV-TACA
can become involved in. We’ll help. We just don’t want to do it all!
If you have any interest in
helping with this, contact Bill Heim, bill@redoakpottery.com

CV-TACA Only Craft
Fair?
Lena Lucas at the Centennial Art
Center has offered the
Veranda in back of the art center as a site for a craft fair for CV-TACA
members only. This is a fairly large
space with a very nice garden/pool area located at the northeastern corner of Centennial Park.
It could be a very nice opportunity for our Chapter and a good learning
experience for those considering applying to any of the larger fairs in this
area which would involve application fees, booth fees, etc. I was not able to speak with Lena before the
newsletter's deadline but I do not believe that any fees would be required from
the Art Center.
I would like to hear from our members regarding whether or not you would
be interested in participating in such a fair.
We would need many volunteers to make this effort successful. Centennial
Art Center
would help with publicity and we had a very good showing with the Nashville media during
our summer exhibit at this site. Also,
are there specific ideas of a good time for this event? We would not want to conflict with any of the scheduled fairs
in Centennial Park. Please email or telephone your
thoughts regarding this opportunity - email would be preferred but, I
understand, is not always possible.

Website Update
If you haven’t seen our website
yet, check it out. There are still some kinks to be worked out. For one, your
designer uses a different browser and it isn’t displaying the way I want it to
for everyone. I’ll get there yet.
If you haven’t submitted
your information, get it in. Check the ones who have. It is free advertising.
Or free bragging. I will change information and pictures within reason when I
have time to do so. If you have lost your submission form, email judy@redoakpottery.com for another
form.
CVTACA meeting schedule,
newsletters, and appropriate links are always posted.
I am always open to
reasonable suggestions. Even unreasonable ones – I’ll just ignore them.
